Why Apply for GEWKC Maker Fair?
Maker Fair returns for Season 2 at GEWKC. We’re looking for local makers and artists to play a starring role. Applications are now open for Maker Fair retail vendor booths at this year’s Global Entrepreneurship Week - KC (GEWKC) event, Nov. 16 - 20, 2026. Your business could make its debut or return for another run.
What is Maker Fair?
Last year, we introduced a farmers market—meets-art fair addition to GEWKC. Maker Fair features local artists, crafters, makers and retailers who run a popup booth during Maker Fair, a dedicated space as part of GEWKC’s ongoing sessions, workshops and other events. It’s our way of supporting local entrepreneurs by creating space for you to promote your business, sell goods and services and connect with hundreds of people attending GEWKC over multiple days.
What type of artists and small businesses participated last year?
Local makers included several jewelry artisans, ceramicists, and mobile coffee bars as well as a leather artisan, speciality food brands, clothing and much, much more. Apply and share what you have in mind.
How do I apply for Maker Fair?
Fill out the form to apply. Applications will be accepted through mid-October or until further notice.
Is there a cost?
Yes, we do charge a nominal fee to cover basic costs. We want to highlight local entrepreneurs, first and foremost. Booth fees apply for each day attended, and payment details will be shared after vendor selection. Here are the vendor dates and booth fees:
Tuesday, November 17, 9:00am-6:00pm ($50 booth fee)
Wednesday, November 18, 9:00am-4:30pm ($35 booth fee)
Thursday, November 19, 9:00am-6:00pm ($50 booth fee)
Booth fees include a table, two chairs, and electricity furnished by Union Station. Outlet access is limited and available only in select spaces.
How do you select vendors?
We select a mix of vendors that would appeal to a wide range of tastes and interests. Since this is our second year of Maker Fair, we may select some vendors from last year as well as new applicants, depending on who applies. We want GEWKC attendees to experience artists, makers, products and concepts that are new, fun and engaging. Keep in mind that attendees often walk from session to session during the day much like a conference or outdoor art fair. Small, light items that can be easily wrapped or put into a bag work better than large bulky goods. We’ll notify vendors selected well in advance so there’s time to prepare. We’ll send additional details this fall once we have our final selection of vendors.
Do vendors need to be available for the entire schedule each day?
Yes, vendors should plan to be present for the full day. Leaving early may affect future participation.
Does GEWKC collect a percentage of sales?
No, GEWKC does not take a percentage or other amount of sales. You keep earnings from your direct sales. Maker Fair is about supporting small businesses and makers like you.
Why should I participate in Maker Fair at GEWKC?
Beyond the opportunity to make sales, your business or creative work will be seen by hundreds of people each day. You can network, gain new customers, promote your brand, build an email list for a newsletter, exchange ideas and tips with other vendors, find potential collaborators and partners for future projects, test a new product or service and simply gain experience running a booth before the holidays and other market events.
